July Wedding at Ron’s Pond, Oregon

On Melissa & Cole’s wedding day at Ron’s Pond, of course we wanted to celebrate their love. But the couple also wanted to celebrate their people: parents, siblings, friends, and community members who’ve contributed so much to their lives and who continue to support their relationship. A memorial charm on Melissa’s bouquet, their uncle as officiant, hand-painted plates, a heart-shaped cake made by Cole’s sister, and many more acts of love and service provided by friends and family

The Wedding Guest Experience vs Wedding Aesthetics

I firmly believe that weddings are about your people, and your in-the-moment experiences. My favorite part of weddings is the intangible magic of gathering everyone you love together. But I’ll confess that sometimes the little physical details are so thoughtful and personal, they steal my heart. And I’m so grateful when amazing photographers like Andrea Zajonc Photography give each detail a spotlight moment, so we can remember them forever.

Meaningful Details

Melissa had a memorial charm on her bouquet to honor a deceased relative, in addition to two memorial photos + chairs in the gazebo to honor their departed grandpas. Melissa also had a memento from Cole’s fire department sewn into the hem of her wedding gown.

Contributions from Family Members

Melissa asked her uncle to be the officiant, the couple had hand-painted plates at their sweetheart table, and Cole’s sister baked a heart-shaped cake for their “cake-cutting moment” (they ordered a big sheet cake to share with other guests). These contributions from their family members infused love and community into an already-special day.

Celebrating Community on Your Wedding Day

To integrate their community into their wedding ceremony, Melissa & Cole paused a moment to encouraged guests to stand and “greet their neighbors.” For a few minutes, everyone was introducing themselves to someone new or hugging someone they’d known for years, before settling back into their seats for the remainder of the ceremony. This was a fantastic way for guests to participate in a portion of the ceremony. It also gave Melissa & Cole a break from being in the spotlight.

Creative Wedding Guest Book Options

It’s tragic: sometimes guest books are left forgotten in a corner during a wedding, and returned to the couple at the end of the night… almost empty. But not when clients hire me! I’ll ensure your guestbook has a place of honor as guests arrive, and that it’s circulated throughout your reception so every guest has a chance to sign. Melissa & Cole added a polaroid camera to their guestbook table, as well as a separate “leave us a voicemail” station to ensure their guests had multiple ways to leave them messages on their wedding day.

Cold Treats for Hot Weddings

Melissa & Cole wanted to offer something frozen, refreshing, and fun for their guests to enjoy during cocktail hour. They opted to rent a snow cone machine through The Party Pros Oregon, and Melissa’s dad volunteered to scoop the frozen treats for their guests. Normally I try to have parents and family members NOT help too much during the wedding day, but Melissa’s dad insisted this was a fun way for him to interact with guests! And he was right: having the father of the bride dish up snow cones was a huge hit. It was also pretty messy, so I was glad we were outdoors and that I had plenty of stain-removing wipes on hand for the inevitable syrup spill on a bridesmaid’s dress (Shout Wipe & Go are my favorite wedding day stain removers to pack in my emergency kit).

Thank you to Ron’s Pond for hosting our beautiful celebration. This was my first time working with this venue, and the owners were delightful and so helpful!

Congratulations Melissa & Cole! I loved spending time with you and your wonderful community. May your love continue to grow through the years!
